{a family and a cause}

Most of my client’s fall under one of two categories: either they are friends-turned-client’s…or client’s-turned-friends. My history with the mama in this family, Sarah, began long before I picked up my first DSLR camera. In fact, it’s a history that started when we were just about the ages of her children. Each year, as their family session falls into place, I remind myself what a privilege it is not only to know them, but to be the one to capture what I know of them. And if you know them, you know that it’s just not possible to document in a still-shot the essence of who they are. They serve and give and foster and protect and love and laugh better than any couple I know. Twice during their session I found myself wondering if Dave might just be the long-lost brother, or at the very least, a distant relative of THE Chip Gaines. And Sarah’s heart very much runs parallel to Joanna’s.

Near the end of the session, which took place on a piece of property we had all to ourselves, they put on their Causewagon shirts and sat in front of the Causewagon itself. If you haven’t heard of the Causewagon, it is a project designed by Dave, an art educator, where half of all proceeds (from the sales of clothing, stickers, custom designs) go to the direct benefit of a local cause. As we go into this season of giving, check out Dave. His story. And the Causewagon.
